Children & Young People

How we help you...

A person as young as 10 can be arrested, held at a police station for questioning and can be charged to attend court. This will be a very stressful and difficult time for the young person and their family. Our aim is to provide the support, legal expertise & practical help to get the best possible result in straightforward language that children and young people can understand.

Why choose JSP Law?
At JSP Law we have solicitors who specialise in advising and representing young people caught up in all stages of the criminal justice system from being interviewed at a police station to appearing in the Magistrates or Crown Court.

We understand how important it is to explain everything clearly.

We work across offices in Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire. We are also able to represent you if you live elsewhere as we can see you not only in our offices but at home or in prison if necessary.

Our experience
We have a wide range of experience in a variety of offences including assault, criminal damage, theft, robbery as well as sexual and violent offences including murder.

We have a team of solicitors including Alicia Nottage, Lindsay McKinnie & Laura Lee who have particular experience in defending young people.

Recent cases include Alicia successfully defending in both the Crown Court and Court of Appeal a young man of 17 with learning difficulties who had been charged with rape (R v W) as well as a young female who was implicated in a murder but was subsequently released and no further action taken against her.

Director Vinod Jumnoodoo represented a teenager accused of the murder of a male at Kempston as well as representing one of three juvenile defendants in a rape case which resulted in the conviction of the youngest-ever rapist, but the acquittal of his client.

He has also successfully persuaded the prosecution to follow their stated policy in relation to individuals who are shown to be trafficked (e.g. R v N and R v M)

Funding your case
We can advise you under the Legal Aid scheme but if public funding is not available we will quote you a competitive price for our work.
